THE CLOSET

Closet Update 8/12/2025:

The Closet has MOVED to the newly remodeled District Center at Sunrise Park! Appointments to visit will resume August 18th and new or gently used donations will again be accepted September 8th. Please click HERE for a list of most needed items. Thank you for thinking of The Closet!

The Closet was formed in 2011 by former Board President Kim Schoonover, after seeing an increase of requests for clothing, including boots, coats, hats, and mittens. The Closet is a dedicated space in the district where families in need are invited to browse through clothing, coats, shoes, and anything that can be worn head to toe.

When students in our school district present a need for clothing, they are able to shop for items needed, free of charge. Students and families are referred to The Closet by school administration staff and a personal appointment is scheduled for the family or student to visit. For some kids, feeling like a star means blending in, not standing out. A sporty White Bear themed sweatshirt or pair of new leggings can go a long way in helping a needy student feel confident - like they fit in.

A Resource for Families In Need In Our District

The Closet is open by appointment, Monday through Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm. Appointments must be scheduled through a school district support staff member. Walk-ins are unable to be honored in order for volunteers to be scheduled.

We are consistently in need of new or gently used boots, waterproof mittens and gloves. Please click HERE for a current list of most needed items.
Donations can be accepted beginning Monday, September 8th - Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm at the Sunrise Park District Center, 2399 Cedar Avenue, White Bear Lake, MN 55110.

John’s Warm Clothes Fund

The Foundation is excited to announce a new fund, that will benefit The Closet. John’s Warm Clothes Fund was established in the spring of 2024 to ensure that all District 624 students have warm coats, snow pants and boots in the winter. John McCormick always made sure his kids were dressed warmly for Minnesota winters. When fall arrived he would check to make sure everyone had the right sized boots, snow pants and coats. With his passing, his family is honoring John by ensuring kids in White Bear Lake Area schools in need have the boots, snow pants and coats necessary to be safe and warm in the cold. To make a donation to this fund, please visit our DONATION PAGE.
