Manitou Music Enrichment Fund

This fund is intended to reduce financial barriers that may prevent students from participating in music education and to encourage continued involvement in music. Funding includes, but is not limited to, private music instruction at McNeeley Music Center in White Bear Lake, instruction by other qualified private instructors, music education materials, musical instruments, and other approved music education expenses.

Applicant Eligibility & grant terms

Students seeking scholarship assistance will work with their licensed District 624 K-12 music teacher, who will complete and submit the application. Applications will be reviewed on a continual basis throughout the year. Most individual awards will range from about $300-$500 and may not exceed the actual cost of the approved lessons, materials, instruments or other approved expenses. Award amounts may vary based on available funding and individual student circumstances.

Who May Apply:

Student grants are available to students enrolled in School District 624 in grades K-12 who demonstrate financial need and who might otherwise be unable to participate in music education activities. Students are expected to explore other avenues of funding, including the organization running the desired activity.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Applications must be submitted by a music teacher.

  • Checks will be made out and sent directly to the organization providing the activity, supplies, or service.

Selection Process:  Applications will be reviewed on a continuous basis by the WBLAEF Manitou Music Enrichment Fund selection committee and teachers/applicants will receive notification by phone or email.

Once the grant has been approved by the WBLAEF Board of Directors, the applicant (Teacher) must receive permission from the Program Committee if the Student requires changes to the original application.

Eligible Requests: Funding from the Manitou Music Enrichment Fund may be used for a variety of music education expenses, including but not limited to:

  • Private music instruction at McNeeley Music Center or with other qualified private instructors

  • Music education materials

  • Purchase or rental of musical instruments and required equipment

  • Other music education expenses approved by WBLAEF

Awards: The Program Committee may adjust award amounts, payment methods, and administrative procedures as necessary to ensure that Manutou Music Enrichment Fund resources are used effectively, equitably, and responsibly and remain consistent with the purpose of the Fund. Unused funds revert back to WBLAEF.
