gayle sundt creative arts support fund

Established in October 2023, the Gayle Sundt Creative Arts Support Fund is a memorial to Gayle Darlene Sundt, former WBLAS Art teacher. As a middle school art teacher in District 624 for 34 years, Gayle positively impacted the lives of her students, by creating a welcoming space for them to express their creativity, exposing them to artists and artworks, and by advocating for the display and recognition of student artwork in regional, state, and national venues and competitions.

The purpose of the Gayle Sundt Creative Arts Support Fund is to provide a source of funding that will be used to support middle school and high school art teachers in WBLAS in one or more of the following ways:

  • To purchase art supplies that are not part of their regular budget.

  • To promote art education by underwriting costs associated with artist visits to classrooms or schools, and student trips to view art in museums, galleries, and other venues to support the display of student artwork in regional, state, or national venues or competitions (for example, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards) by paying for postage, packaging, entry fees, and other expenses related to the submission of student artwork.

  • To celebrate student artists by underwriting costs associated with display, such as rental fees for display spaces, refreshments for an opening reception, printing and postage for mailings promoting the display, transportation for students to the exhibition venue, and other costs as proposed by applicants.
