White Bear Lake Area Community Gives Back to the Foundation
Whether the result of a job loss, unexpected medical expenses or any number of situations, the needs of our students and families increase each year. Over the holiday season, the WBLAEF received donations of clothing, blankets, gift cards and other items from individuals and organizations in the community. We sincerely appreciate these donations from local businesses, civic organizations and families to meet the needs of students and families in the White Bear area.
Here are the highlights from our generous community partners during the 2018 holiday season:
The Annual WBLAEF Holiday Angels Program helps district families with providing basic needs such as food, warm clothing and housing. Only when those needs are met can students be successful. This year, WBLAEF received Holiday Angel donations in the amount of $3,670. Those funds will help reduce homelessness, fill hungry bellies, and provide warm clothes for countless students and their families.
The White Bear Lake Police Department organized a holiday emergency gift card drive to supplement our Angel Fund. They collected nearly $300 in grocery, gas, restaurant, and clothing gift cards that we will use to help provide emergency relief to district families in need.
The City of Vadnais Heights collected a variety of winter outerwear donations for The Closet.
The WBLAEF received a grant from the Edina Realty Foundation that will be used to cover the expense of winter coats, boots, hats and mittens, backpacks, school supplies, basic food and clothing, and even temporary housing for students and families in need.
The White Bear Lake Rotary Club and Trollhaugen Ski Resort recently held a coat drive for The Closet where community members donated approximately 300 coats.
Hugo Elementary teachers Hilary Farrington, Toni Brandvold, Leah Armstrong and Laurie Hahn, along with their kindergarteners, made fleece blankets to donate to The Closet during their 8th annual Families Helping Families event December 14 and 21.
Volunteers and parishioners from Christ the Servant Church in Vadnais Heights collected and donated 280 pairs of boys/girls socks and 166 pairs of boys/girls underwear for The Closet.
The Women’s Ministry of Christ the King Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake made a recent year-end donation to our Angel Fund.
Thank you to the many community partners that support The White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation.
