Deb Beloyed was elected to the White Bear Lake Area School Board in 2017 and serves as the school board's liaison to our Foundation Board.
Jill joined the board in 2019. She and her husband, Mike, and their children have lived in White Bear Lake since 2009. Jill is a parent leader in our schools and an active volunteer throughout the community. Jill devotes countless hours each year working with the school district and the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf to ensure all students in need have access to clothing needs, as well as nutritious meals outside the school day. While Jill has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Cellular Biology from the University of Northern Colorado, she has a long history of serving others. Jill is a motivated and driven person who works hard to lead by example: whether it's organizing a food drive for the Birch Lake Elementary Student Council or competing in an Ironman triathlon.
Paul joined the board in 2014 and is co-owner of Hallberg Engineering, Inc. located in White Bear Lake. Paul and his wife Nicole reside in White Bear Township and have two children in the district. Paul co-chairs our annual golf event fundraiser.
Dale joined the board in 2019 and serves as a volunteer with The Closet in his spare time. Dale resides in North Oaks with his wife Julie and has two daughters who are enrolled in the District.
Bill joined the board in 2014. Bill is an attorney representing businesses and individuals in the Twin Cities in a variety of legal matters. Bill and his wife Jess reside in White Bear Lake and have three children in the District.
Bob joined the board in 2018. He grew up on the Iron Range in Virginia, Minnesota, but as a 26-year resident of White Bear Lake, this has become home. Former owner of Capstone Services, LLC, a residential service for people with developmental disabilities and former owner of a popular St. Paul restaurant, Bob and his wife Karen have recently sold their businesses and consider themselves semi-retired. They now spend their time enjoying their 5 adult children and 11 grandchildren.
Rick joined the board in 2017 and is the Assistant City Manager for the City of White Bear Lake. He and his wife Rachel have two children. Outside of work they enjoy spending time together as a family in the outdoors.

Mary Cleary Kowitz
Mary joined the board in 2017 and is a 1968 WB High School Alum. She has lived in White Bear since 1953. Mary worked for the school district for 44 years before retiring in 2013. Mary is a member of the White Bear Lake Lions Club and owns Designs By Mary, a floral and wedding consulting business.
MaryEllen joined the board in 2015 and is a retired elementary teacher who taught in the district for 34 years, primarily at Lincoln Elementary. MaryEllen was the Enrichment Coordinator and PTA Liaison at her school while serving on numerous building and district level committees. She was honored and humbled to receive the Lynn Mielke Distinguished Educator Award in 2010. MaryEllen enjoys and values the opportunity to work with the dedicated members of the WBLAEF and the WBL community.
Bob joined the board in 2013. Bob is VP Senior Community Banker at MidCountry Bank in White Bear Lake and is involved with many community organizations. Bob resides in Vadnais Heights with his wife and two children, both of which are recent graduates of WBLAS. He is passionate about the quality of education here at home for our students and for expanding educational opportunities for our teachers to bring into the classroom. He gets the most satisfaction on expanding educational opportunities in our District and making a difference.
Dan joined the board in 2018. Dan’s teaching experience began as a student teacher in New Zealand. His first official position was as a 5th grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary where he taught for 7 years before entering the administration role. During this time, he was recognized as White Bear Lake Area Teacher of the Year in 1997. In the fall of 1998, Dan accepted his first elementary interim principal position in Sartell, MN then spent 7 years as principal at Castle Elementary in the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District. As residents of White Bear Lake, Dan, his wife and children were excited when he became principal of Lincoln Elementary in White Bear Lake in 2006. He is deeply committed to his family, students and the community.
Kathy joined the board in 2017. Kathy is life-long resident of White Bear Lake and is a 1973 WB High School Alum. Kathy has a passion and love for the area. She worked for the District for 34 years as an administrative assistant and currently works with her husband Darrell at Hanson-Stone Retirement Strategies. Kathy and Darrell have two grown children and seven grandchildren to keep them busy. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising at the YMCA, church activities and travel. She also volunteers her time with HealthPartners Hospice program.
Scott joined the board in 2015 and is a 1971 WB High School Alum. After a 20-year hiatus from the White Bear area for a military career, Scott and his family returned and was elected to the White Bear Lake Area School Board and serves as the school board's liaison to our Foundation Board. Scott's educational passion is to provide a genuine "level playing field" for all district students and to provide the resources for all students to pursue their educational dreams.
Connie joined the board in 2010 and has served as Board President. As an Executive Director for REM Minnesota, Connie oversees services to over 1000 individuals with disabilities in the state of Minnesota. With over 30 years of experience in the field Connie has also taken leadership roles in the state trade provider association as well as served as a provider representative on several Department of Human Services Task Force Initiatives. Connie and her husband Mike Weigel, reside in Vadnais Heights. They have two grown children that are WBLAS graduates.
Jenny joined the board in 2019. She worked at the University of Minnesota for 37 years. She spent 25 years as Director of Interprofessional Student Services for the Academic Health Center; 5 years in Community Relations for the Office of Communications; and 7 years as Administrative Director for the Center for Bioethics. Jenny spent a significant part of her professional career in event planning. She was Chair of the Fairview University Hospital’s Turtle Derby for 10 years. She also assembled a committee of colleagues and students to bring the American Cancer Society Relay for Life to the U of M community. Both fundraisers are still going strong. Jenny and her husband Doug raised two sons who graduated from the White Bear Lake Area School District: Peter (1985-2005), and Scott, an entertainment journalist who lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jen. Jenny and Doug lived in White Bear Lake for 20 years, and currently reside in Stillwater.
